The Work

Five albums. Each one a chapter — written in studios late at night when the city goes quiet and the music gets honest. Fabian de Armas has spent years in the room, building a body of work that doesn't follow trends, only truth.

From the first session to the last take, every record carries the same obsession: craft that you can feel before you understand it.

What's Coming

New material is already deep in the process. More songs, more weight, more of everything that made the first five albums worth returning to. The studio never really closes.

There's no timeline. Just the work, and when it's ready, it will arrive.

The Gear

A breakdown of what goes into recording the albums.

DAW
Pro Tools
I have been using Pro Tools for a long time — learning and recording with it for years before my first album. I could never get into Logic or other DAWs as much. It just makes the most sense to me.
Interface
PreSonus FireStudio ×2 · Focusrite Scarlett
I have several interfaces. If I need a lot of channels I use my two PreSonus FireStudio interfaces together and that gives me a max of 16 channels — I rarely need to use both though. I also have a small Focusrite for travel.
Drums
Shure Beta 91A · Sennheiser e604 · AKG P170 · SM57
For the kick drum I use the Shure Beta 91A — I love the attack it has. For the snare and toms I use Sennheiser e604s, they're easy to clip on and sound great. Sometimes I'll mic the hi-hat with a Shure SM57. For overheads I use two AKG P170s for a stereo spread. I wouldn't mind upgrading the overheads to Roswell microphones eventually.
Bass
DI · Markbass
I usually go direct — DI in or DI out of my Markbass amp. I think micing the bass amp along with the DI is the best combo for sound, but I find that I like hearing it through the monitors instead of a loud amp and having to wear headphones.
Guitar
BOSS Katana · SM57 · Sennheiser E609 · AmpliTube
For convenience I'll go DI a lot with AmpliTube or another plugin amp. Lately I've been using my BOSS Katana and running the output direct. If I want to mic up an amp I usually go for the Shure SM57 and Sennheiser E609 together.
Keyboards
Yamaha (Stereo Out)
I use the stereo out of my Yamaha keyboard. I like to record the audio instead of using MIDI and quantizing. It might take a few more takes but it keeps the natural feel.
Vocals
Blue Bluebird
I use a Blue Bluebird condenser mic. I've tried and owned other microphones but this one has a quality to it that just works for my vocals.
Plugins
Waves CLA Series · iZotope Ozone
I'm a big fan of the Chris Lord-Alge Waves plugins and his general mixing style. I also master using Ozone.
